Pottery Mark Identifier

Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 25, 2026

This policy explains how Pottery Mark Identifier processes information when you photograph or select an image, request an AI-assisted mark analysis, use subscriptions, or contact support.

Information You Provide

When you request an identification, the app processes the image you capture or choose, your analysis request, and any follow-up messages you submit. Images may include a maker's mark, the ceramic object, its surroundings, or other details visible in the photo. Avoid including faces, addresses, documents, or other unnecessary personal information.

Camera and Photo Access

The app requests camera access so you can photograph a mark and uses the Android photo picker when you choose an existing image. Access is used only after your action to provide these features. You can change camera permission in Android Settings.

AI Analysis and Service Providers

Your selected image and related messages are sent over HTTPS to our server and then to OpenAI for visual analysis and response generation. OpenAI processes this content as a service provider subject to its applicable terms and privacy practices. Do not submit content you are not authorized to share.

Server Image Storage

Uploaded images are stored on our server using non-descriptive SHA-256-based filenames. The image URL must be technically reachable so the analysis service can retrieve it. Directory listing is disabled, but anyone who obtains an exact image URL may be able to view the image.

Images may be retained until they are deleted for operational, storage, security, or privacy reasons, or following a valid deletion request. Contact us with enough information to locate the submission if you want to request deletion.

Information Stored on Your Device

Onboarding status, subscription state, scan history, selected image references, and conversations may be stored locally on your device. The app does not require a Pottery Mark Identifier account. Local information remains until removed through the app, Android settings, device backup behavior, or app deletion.

Subscriptions and Payments

Subscriptions are processed directly by Google Play Billing. The app receives product, purchase state, acknowledgement, renewal, and entitlement information needed to provide Premium access. We do not receive or store your complete payment card details.

Technical Data and Logs

Our hosting providers may process limited technical information such as IP address, request time, user agent, requested path, response status, and security or error events. This information is used to deliver the service, prevent abuse, troubleshoot failures, and maintain reliability.

Support Communications

If you contact support, we receive your email address, message, and anything else you choose to provide. We may retain support correspondence as reasonably necessary to respond, prevent abuse, and maintain support records.

Sharing and Sale of Information

We do not sell personal information. Information is shared only as needed with service providers that support app operation, including hosting providers, OpenAI for analysis, and Google Play for billing and distribution, or when required by law or necessary to protect rights and security.

Retention and Deletion

Retention depends on the type of information and operational need. Uploaded images are handled as described above. Server logs and support records are kept only as reasonably necessary for service operation, security, legal compliance, and support. You may request access or deletion by contacting us. We may need information such as the approximate submission date or exact uploaded-image URL to locate server content.

Children

The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child submitted personal information, contact us so we can review and delete it where appropriate.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, including HTTPS and restricted access to server credentials. No storage or transmission method can be guaranteed completely secure.

International Processing

Service providers may process information in countries other than your own. Where required, information is handled using appropriate legal mechanisms and safeguards.

Your Choices and Rights

Changes

We may update this policy as the app or its service providers change. The current version and update date will be published on this page.
