Food Expiry AI is designed to help users scan food labels, track pantry and fridge items, receive expiry reminders, and generate simple meal ideas.

This Privacy Policy explains what information the app may process, how it is used, and what choices users have.

Information We Process

Food Expiry AI may process the following information when you use the app:

• Food inventory details you enter or save, such as product name, brand, category, quantity, storage location, expiry date, opened date, notes, and item images.
• OCR text extracted from selected food label photos or scanned documents.
• AI request content, such as OCR text, food item metadata, pantry chat prompts, and soon-to-expire item lists.
• Subscription status and purchase information provided by Apple StoreKit.
• Notification preferences used to schedule expiry reminders on your device.
• Support messages you send to us, including your email address and the content of your request.

Photos and Camera

Food Expiry AI may ask for access to the camera or photo library when you choose to scan or import a label image.

Images selected for scanning are used to read food labels and help create inventory items. You should review extracted results before saving them.

AI Processing

Food Expiry AI does not store an OpenAI API key in the iOS app.

When you use AI-powered features, the app may send OCR text, food item details, and your pantry chat prompt to a private server-side proxy for processing. The proxy returns structured results, recipe suggestions, or chat responses to the app.

Do not include sensitive personal, medical, financial, or confidential information in pantry chat prompts or scanned text.

How We Use Information

We use information processed by the app to:

• Create and manage your pantry and fridge inventory.
• Extract food label details from OCR text.
• Show what expires soon.
• Schedule expiry reminders.
• Suggest meal ideas using soon-to-expire items.
• Power AI pantry chat responses.
• Verify Pro subscription access.
• Respond to support requests.
• Improve app reliability and user experience.

On-Device Storage

Food inventory data is stored on your device using local app storage. If iCloud backup or device backup is enabled on your device, app data may be included according to your Apple settings.

Notifications

If you enable expiry reminders, Food Expiry AI schedules local notifications on your device. You can change notification permissions in iOS Settings.

Purchases and Subscriptions

Purchases are handled by Apple through StoreKit. Food Expiry AI receives subscription entitlement information from Apple so the app can unlock subscription features. We do not receive or store your full payment card details.

Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information.

We may share limited data only with service providers needed to operate app features, such as server-side AI processing and Apple StoreKit purchase verification. These services are used only to provide app functionality.

Data Retention

Food inventory data remains in the app until you delete it or remove the app. Support emails may be retained as needed to respond to your request and maintain support records. Server logs, if generated, are kept only as needed for security, debugging, and service reliability.

Children

Food Expiry AI is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Your Choices

You can:

• Edit or delete saved food items in the app.
• Disable notifications in the app or iOS Settings.
• Avoid AI features if you do not want OCR text or pantry prompts processed by the server-side AI proxy.
• Manage or cancel subscriptions through your Apple ID settings.
• Contact support to ask privacy questions.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information processed by Food Expiry AI. No system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The latest version will be posted on the Privacy Policy page.
